Daniel J. Sullivan (DJ) is a jazz/improvisational pianist, composer and music educator originally from St. Croix, USVI. DJ holds a Bachelor of Music in Theory, a Master of Music in Theory and an Orff-Schulwerk Certificate from Southern Methodist University, Dallas, Texas. His initial piano training began in St. Croix where he studied with Robert Glover, Marsha Shuman and Isabel Mason. At SMU he continued his piano studies with Sam Holland and Alfred Mouledous.
Currently, DJ is the Director of Worship Arts at St. Andrew’s United Methodist Church Arlington, Texas. In his role as music director he selects, arranges and composes music for Sunday worship in addition to accompanying and directing the praise ensemble.
As a jazz pianist, DJ has performed regularly for the SMU Tate Lecture series, the
Hockaday School development events, the Dallas Arboretum Garden of Music series as well other venues and concert series in the Dallas-Ft. Worth area. He was featured in August 2014 in the St. Croix Chamber of Commerce Jazz in the Park concerts series in Christiansted with the Eddie Russell Jazz Ensemble. He has also performed and directed his jazz duo ensemble for the Dallas Symphony Orchestra Casual Fridays concerts series pre and post concert performance for the 2009-2013 seasons. In 2009 DJ recorded a CD of original compositions, The Old Man and the Sea.
As a piano and Orff-Schulwerk teacher, DJ has taught at St. Croix Montessori St. Croix, USVI, the Hockaday School Dallas, Texas, Pebblecreek Montessori School Allen, Texas, Pegasus Charter School Dallas, Texas and the Zhen Music and Arts Institute Dallas, Texas.
DJ lives in Dallas with his wife and son and enjoys skating at the local skateparks.
